The bi-district play-offs go to the Wildcats! The third game in the best of three series with Kempner was won 8-4. Now updated with new information in the recap! Next game Tuesday 8PM @ LaPorte. Do or die. This was a game for clutch plays and clutch players. Jordon Lenaburg started on the mound and did well for Creek until he injured his elbow half-way through the second inning. Steve Collins took over for him and finished out the inning. Then Reed Gordy pitched the next three innings. Shawn Blackwell took over for the last two innings. Also, on the Wildcat defense, no errors were committed, and Kempner had to leave the field several times with runners in scoring position. Greg Olson also had an amazing inning-saving play in center field. I remember hearing in the stands when Olson came up with the ball, "What?! He got that?!" Clutch play that killed a Kempner rally. Creek's defense literally shut Kempner down after the third inning. Kempner was ahead the entire game until the sixth inning. All the Creek pitchers did a great job, and the Wildcats took the lead by two under Reed Gordy's watch. Reed Gordy took the win for Creek. Buckley reports this quote from Coach Mallory: “Gordy has to be our player of the game. He gave us an opportunity to come back by putting zeros on the board. Then once, we got the lead, I knew we could hand it over to Shawn to finish the job.” Sure enough, the fight went out of Kempner when Blackwell took the mound. It got real quiet on the Kempner side. Cocky in their win the first night, they had screamed for Blackwell..and they GOT Blackwell on Friday. I'm pretty sure they didn't want to see him again on Saturday - and probably didn't think they would. After all, he'd thrown 120 pitches on Friday night. But he said his arm felt great, he'd thrown mostly off-speed on Friday, and was ready to step in for his team. And like Coach Mallory has said, Blackwell is a rally-around guy. Kempner knew they were finished, and it showed in their dugout. While Creek's pitchers did their job and held Kempner down for the final four innings, the Creek offense really came through with some big clutch hits. On the Wildcat offense, Austin Robson went three for four (including a crucial double that put Creek ahead on the scoreboard) with three RBIs, and Ryan Gunhouse and Ethan Hughes each had 1 RBI. Like the previous games in the series, Gunhouse came through with a HUGE triple! Reed Gordy also scored a hit, and Dyllan McGregor laid down a beautiful sac bunt. With everyone doing their jobs, there was no stopping Creek. This series was truly a team win!!
