Head JV Coach/Asst Varsity

Coach Abernathy began his second season as a member of the staff at Clear Creek this year. Coach Abernathy will serve as the Head JV Coach and the Varsity Outfielders Coach for the 2008-2009 season.

Coach “Ab” began his playing career at Haughton High School where he lettered four years and was a part of four District Championship teams that advanced to the 4A state semifinals twice and the state quarterfinals once. Coach Abernathy was a 3-time All District, All-City and Honorable Mention All-State player. He also lettered in basketball and soccer. After high school Coach Ab played collegiate baseball at LSU-Shreveport where he was a two-year starter at second base. After transferring to the University of Louisiana-Monroe he obtained his BA degree in English and began his teaching and coaching career.

This is Coach Ab's 9th season as a coach. He has been a head coach at Bastrop (LA) High School, C.E. Byrd (LA) High School and Palestine High School. At Byrd, his team qualified for the Louisiana 5A State Playoffs in 2003 and 2004 and were ranked as high as #8 in LSWA 5A polls. It was the first time a Byrd team had made the playoffs in over a decade. He also coached the Shreveport Orioles American Legion Select Team to back-to-back state tournaments reaching the state championship game twice before falling to the eventual American Legion National Champions from Metarie, LA. Coach Abernathy
has coached over twenty players that are currently in either professional or collegiate baseball.

Coach “Ab” has a lovely girlfriend, Torie, and a golden retriever, Slider.
